Students in the Middle School may participate in up to 2 Launch Activities per year. Launch Activities are high interest activities that provide students in-depth learning experiences in subject areas not normally accessable to regular classrooms. Students must apply for each Launch Activity, which usually takes place during the afternoon hours (during school). These activities are free, and any Middle School Student may apply. Click on the links below to learn about previous Launch Activities. 2007-2008 This year's first Launch activity will take place on Tuesday, October 2. Participating students will board a bus bound for the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha to take in the "Spared From the Storm: Masterworks from the New Orleans Museum of Art". This exhibit is a collection of artwork that was saved from the wrath of Hurricane Katrina. Included are works from Degas, O'Keefe, Picasso and Monet. Launch #2 will take middle school students to the world of scalpels, clamps and anesthesia. On November 14, Dr. Greg McCarthy and a clinic supervisor will lead the students on a tour of pre-op, post-op and an operating room. Students will don scrubs and get a close-up look at some of the instruments used in surgery. It will not be a Launch for the faint-of-heart!
