Providing Resources and Opportunities to
Purposefully Enrich Learning PROPEL Academy consists of a dynamic team of teachers, psychologists, and other school leaders who have a passion to reach, challenge and stretch gifted and talented students in the South Sioux City School District. They work hard to offer the best in cutting-edge methods and academic adventures for students as they focus their efforts on the unique needs and learning styles of this diverse group of individuals. They also provide ongoing support to general classroom teachers in helping them enhance the learning opportunities they offer students every day in their classrooms.Students in grades 1-3 receive instruction 8 times per year from Rebecca Meier. Rebecca creates a portfolio that helps determine which students will be placed in the grades 4 and 5 pull out program, implemented by Kristi Wilshire. Members of these 4th-5th grade groups receive 2.5 hours of instruction per week, in areas such as creative problem solving, logic and reasoning, advanced technology, and other high interest areas. In the Middle School, participants from the elementary PROPEL Academy continue their studies under Cassandra Joseph's instruction in the Middle School PROPEL Academy. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Launch Activities, which are meant to spark the interest of students in particular areas. For instance, the first Launch Activity brought students to Kahill's Chophouse in South Sioux City, where they learned about plate presentation, the differences in cultural dining, and of course, taste testing! |
